This is pretty much what I've had in mind all along:

So basically, I imagined him (it?) as a floating head with ear-wings whose face looks like Dr. McCoy from TOS (added photo for reference because my drawing sort of sucked).

The main reason being that it's sort of annoying how with all the possibilities, most aliens in sci-fi are still humanoids. I also got the idea for the clamp-fingers (and whatever that spiky/hairy one is) while drawing him.

Not to mention that he should look scary enough to make at least one of the apes deadly afraid of him.

Whachoothink?

I think I'd probably need to see another rendering of this, because that one sucks. :P But the whole non-humanoid thing has potential. And, of course, any reference to ST is always welcome.

Yes, that'd work. I definitely like it. Now, if we could only push it through to production without someone complaining.

No, really. It'd be good to throw off the players...they're walking around in these brilliantly designed backgrounds with very nicely created characters, and then SUDDENLY, this guy walks into the room. Or rather, floats in.

Animating could get tricky, though. Especially anything related to facial expressions, such as talking ;)

I figured you could just go Canadian-style on that.

*approve*

The animation's a little jerky for the actual game...and maybe he should be humming the song in the real thing.

Otherwise:

Works!

We should throw in a line or two about how the hell he ended up looking like that, but otherwise, I approve.

Hmm, still not entirely sure about this... but it might work with a few little tweaks. I'd at least make the lines vectorised first ;)

Couldn't we call him Dr. Vektor?

Doctor Viktor van Vektor! :y:

Maybe his odd appearance could be explained by him being a semi-holographic interphased projection or something like that, so he could interact with the physical objects but appear to everyone in a weird 2D way.

Or... not.

How about the old "they were too lazy to draw me properly"-explanation?

Bit overused by now.

And in some way, so is mine, but it's a scientific explanation, so it's somewhat justified. (Otherwise we could argue why in so many movies rainfall is explained by condensation and gravity ;) )

Yes, he should be a holographic doctor limited to the confines of the medical building. And he could have ordered a mobile emitter, except that there's been a delay in shipping or something. And of course, we could explain his appearance away on the fact that the holographic emitters are malfunctioning, as usual.
