Various Typos

Post by Vhati »

In the Store, looking at the cigarettes...
"Even then, the cigarettes still sell."

The tense is mixed.
Either "Even so" or "still sold" will fix it.

...

In Never's office, when looking at the dresser picture...
"It's a autographed picture of those guys from the iPod commercial."
Should be "an".

...

In the mine drill, linking the Control Panel...
"You lather up some saliva and... smother it all over the control panel? Do I really have to read every line of dialogue? I'm sure we can afford to cut some of this out of the game."
Should be "slather".

...

In the Break Room...
The "Refridgerator" object should be called "Refrigerator".

...

In the Lab, talking to the Bird...
"I beg your pardon for my less-than-adequate brother, sir. It would appear the distribution of our brain cells was not exactly homologous, if you know what I mean."
Wrong word, "commensurate", maybe?
If yer gonna make it polly-syllabic to sound smart, use the right verbiage. Heh.

...

In the mental living room, looking at Slash...
After swapping toys, the description still says he's playing with a wagon.

...

In the mental monolith Break Room...
No 'Hamster in the Microwave' comment? For shame. :P
Day of the Tentacle was by Lucas Arts, so I guess it's excusable.

...

In the head room, looking at the melty photo on the right...
Wow, I didn't realize how similar the Kerona acid shower was to the Ortega lava bath.
I was soo ready to call "Hey that's SQ3!" until I checked both games.
No problem there. :)

These are fine the way they are.

Already getting complaints of too many LucasArts references...

Subtle difference.

smoth·er
1. a. To suffocate (another).
1. b. To deprive (a fire) of the oxygen necessary for combustion.
2. To conceal, suppress, or hide: Management smothered the true facts of the case.
3. To cover thickly: smother chicken in sauce.
4. To lavish a surfeit of a given emotion on (someone)

slath·er
1. To use or give great amounts of; lavish: slathered gifts and attention on their only child.
2. a. To spread thickly: slather onions on the steak.
2. b. To cover with something spread thickly: bagels slathered with cream cheese.

Smother target with substance.
vs
Slather substance on target.

Current Dialog: "X it all over the control panel"

Yeah, lather and slather clash too much in that sentence. I'll think about a third option.

"the distribution of our brain cells was not exactly homologous"
Since I was pedantically citing the dictionary anyway...

Homologous
I originally thought you might've meant distribution of neurons between heads in a balance, more-for-one, sort of way.
(for which commensurate would have been more appropriate and similarly awkward syllable-padding).

My first reaction was using the biological meaning, since squishy stuff was the subject: most any two brains would be homologous, regardless of neuron count, because they're both brains (lotta common descent for those, especially ones in the same body).

BUT... If I squint and focus solely on "distribution" to shift context into an abstract structure comparison, to infer the bird was understatedly remarking that their brains weren't quite wired up the same, then I guess I finally understand "if you know what I mean".

Cheerfully withdrawn. =P~
