Or one of those fun Sliders vortexes. "Holy cow Roger, you just crossed a vortex into alternate world, and you only have 30 seconds before the vortex reappears (or some such)!" Given the secrecy of their project I dunno if they'd give us a peek. Sure, it'd be nice, but I doubt they'd do it...

We can't do too much about that without really knowing the logistics of it. Or we can just assume that this is a period of time after SQ7.

Or, just have them be two separate entities which reference each other.

I think there is a bit less of a legal threat when you're doing a free, fan made game, only to be released to smaller circles.

Aeryn is easy enough to pass off as not copywrited, but Zaxxon was an intentional reference to the isometric shooter. Whatever works.
